For her reception at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Sarani envisioned something celestial yet modern—an homage to the stars above and her Indian roots below. I was so excited to bring that vision to life! After a few conversations, she and I both fell in love with one of the sketches I created for her.
I always design with the hope that people not only feel amazing, but also deeply connected to what they’re wearing. Sarani's tears and the pure joy on her face when she tried on her gown was a beautiful reminder of why I started this brand.
How would you describe your initial vision for your reception dress? Did you have specific elements you wanted incorporated?
I knew that the reception would be held at the Adler Planetarium and initially was looking for something featuring sparkles or a celestial vibe. I definitely wanted dramatic corsetting and a drop waist as well. While the dress was a western style, I wanted to incorporate elements of Indian clothing, such as fabric style and draping, that were a nod to my heritage. Harleen was able to work within my budget and create a custom design for me that was everything I was looking for!
Did you have a favorite detail or little touch that guests might not have even noticed throughout the evening or wedding weekend?
I bought my first pair of designer shoes - silver Jimmy Choos - for the event. I spent weeks trying to break them in, but unfortunately, I had to take them off to really be comfy on the dance floor!!
Tell us more about your Reception: were there any details you were particularly excited about after all the planning was finally over?
I was extremely excited for the reception decor - we created a seating chart that was inspired by horoscope birth charts that was so stunning in real life. But most of all, I was excited for the after party--it was to be held in the Sky Theater, a sphere-shaped room with 360 projections of the night sky. That room, plus the never ending bops played by DJ Illest, was the best way to top off the whirlwind celebrations.
We LOVED the train photoshoot! What inspired that moment?
Nish and I are huge fans of all public transportation, and we are loyal to the CTA. I wanted to try something fun and unique for the reception photoshoot, and I was inspired by a 90s Japanese photoshoot of a bride and groom in full wedding garb pictured on public transportation. The juxtaposition of the couture on the L, captured by Tess Schilke's flash photography style, encapsulated us perfectly.
